Accidentals: Monkey and the Storyteller

"Ah! Welcome young-ling"  said an old man in a rather raggedy getup. His long white robe was visibly covered with many spots of wear. It is hardly white anymore. Yellow is the best way to describe it. On top of it, he wore a red vest, to shield him of the bitterness of the night.
On a wooden bench he sat. Behind him, there was a large glass structure, with an oriental roof covering its top. Its design was characteristic of the Ming dynasty. Warmth it emitted from the ginormous candle on the inside.
"Looking for a bed time story I gather?" asked the elderly man as he looked up to a kid. In the eyes of the boy, he is no longer than a few inches tall, situated on top of what appears to be a study desk.
The kid nodded in excitement.
"hmm... Should It tell you of the story of the warrior prince? Or the adventures of the knights of wisdom?" asked the old man as he pondered aloud a story of interest.
"..." an even smaller creature, a monkey, interrupted.
"Oh! The story of the Persian kids?" asked the man.
"..."
"It has both a hero and heroine?"
"..."
As the man looked up to the kid, he asked "would you like to hear a story about a young girl?"
The boy shook his head vigorously. His facial features seemed rather disappointed. He clearly disapproves.
"I'm a boy!" he whispered.
"Very Well, seems like you were right old friend" The man continues as he shifts his attention towards the monkey "I never quite understood why the young behave as such. Shouldn't they be naturally attracted to those who are different?
"..."
"I see. They need somebody they can relate to in a story, as to learn from them?"
"..."
"Alright, alright! On we go with the story"
