Accidentals: The Great Divide

Promises of a sense of belonging are many. Religion, nationality, and neighborhoods are all very complex premises. They form basis for communities. They bring people together and help them watch out for each other. They form tight-knit circles where people can feel safe and welcome.

When those promises are deep, they create rifts between people, sometimes manifesting in enforcement of physical distance. They can lead to a drive to alienate those outside these circles. The mildest drive is in the form of communication styles with those being alienated...

Somehow, our desire to connect with others, also makes us deny others the very same thing we desire i.e., a sense of belonging.

Alienation is an idea that can be alien to many. It is one idea that I struggled immensely with. I wish that one day we can overcome it together.
