Accidentals: Hypnotic Circles

Opening circles then never closing them could be the most selfish thing one human being can do to another! When we tune into a story, we give part of our attention to that story. Theoretically, as we partake in stories, we lose a part of ourselves, a small part.

From a hypnosis standpoint, every new story is a new level of unconsciousness. Stories must come to an end. When we start telling a story we open a circle. Part of us, our consciousness, remains in that circle until the story completes and the circle closes. Opening one story, then another... takes a piece of our attention, then another, dismantling our consciousness. Theoretically, at some point, our conscious mind drifts away into oblivion.

Starting a story and never ending it creates a cliff hanger. Although it takes away pieces of our souls, somehow it is the part of stories that is most exciting, compelling, uplifting, bittersweet, and often liberating.

The hypnotic allure of cliffhangers allows us the freedom to choose how to close the circles ourselves. This can be the most empowering part about creating our own closure. After all, we are at our most free, when we are free to choose. As we complete those opened circles, one story... followed by the one before it, we allow ourselves to be whole and feeling completely in control of who we are.
