Beliefs that go beyond our understanding might have miniature truths. Similar to how there is truth in trickery, there can be substance to superstition.

Wild superstitions grow in wildness the longer their journeys are. The act of passing beliefs down alone, reshapes the meanings associated with them to what we call today superstitions. The more ears beliefs pass, the more likely they are to engage a game of telephone! Additionally, as language evolves, understanding diminishes.

It is likely that we simply don't have the vocabulary today to understand the minds of the past. Many attempted to comprehend the full genius of Greek philosophers. The closest they've come, is a very alluring portrait of an intangible wisdom. On the other hand, what if our smarts actually outgrew theirs?

Some believe that revelations follow intelligence, closely. Under the assumption that intelligence evolved over time, so would the revelations. This is evident by the rise of inventions over the years, a trend which continues today. We can conclude that what they received of knowledge was only enough to get them going about their daily lives, then.

What if our ancestors had it right!? Take for example the statement that the world is flat. According to us... today... the universe is indeed flat!
